TITLE: "Warping for Multivariate Functional Data with Application to Longitudinal Growth Curves"
ABSTRACT: From 1954 to 1978, a longitudinal study on human growth and development was con-
ducted at the University Childrens Hospital in Zurich. Modalities of growth measured
include standing height, sitting height, arm length, and leg length, which can be viewed
as multivariate functional data. It is an interesting biological question to search for a
common growth process that ordinates the timings of growth spurts across body parts.
We can begin to address this question by examining phase variations in the growth ve-
locities during the pubertal growth spurt window across the 4 modalities. For this task
we take a new approach to functional registration.
